Yoxford and Peasenhall

Operating Under the Direction of 1st Fressingfield Scout Group.

Yoxford and Peasenhall

Squirrels - 1:30 - 3:30pm

Beavers - 1:30 - 3:30pm

Cubs - 1:30 - 3:30pm

Scouting at Yoxford and Peasenhall is fully embedded within our curriculum, for all pupils from Years 1 to Year 6. We provide a structure of badges and awards, which are progressive through the sections, and based on a number of objectives. Our programme has been planned alongside our broad and balanced curriculum to ensure that activities planned supplement and enhance the learning that is taking place.

We have recently been approved to run the second Squirrel Drey in Norfolk, which caters for young people between the ages of 4-6.

In 2016, the Times Education Supplement (TES) wrote an article which suggested that children who joined Scouts and Guides - and benefited from outdoors experiences and independent learning as a result - had better mental health in adulthood. The below article continues in that theme, stating that where scouting is embedded in school curriculum pupils reap longer term benefits. Click here to read the TES Article

Spring 2023 Update

The Beavers in our school sections are working towards their Experiment badge they have been predicting what will happen before we conduct weekly experiments. They have enjoyed exploring a kaleidoscope of colour with rainbow spinners. Then they have been looking at plants and flowers and seeing if we can change the colours from white to coloured using coloured water to dye the flower. The children were very curious to see if the flower would change colour and were excited to observe it daily change colour. The beavers have been working collaboratively, throughout all their activities. The Beavers also explored what is a magnetic and had a go at magnet fishing.

The Cubs at Middleton have been working towards their Personal Safety badge. They have been learning about the power of observation and how to be aware of their surroundings. They have also been learning about water safety, rail safety and road safety.

The Cubs at Yoxford and Peasenhall have been exploring personal safety and matching up scenarios.

Squirrel Section Opened

"Today [May 5th 2022] we officially launched our new 'Squirrels Drey' where 14 new squirrels and 2 new leaders were invested into the scouting family. Our Group Lead Volunteer, Mr Aalders-Dunthorne, joined us and presented each squirrel with their necker, once they had made their promise. A very proud moment for us all 😊" - via Facebook

Ofsted 2019 Feedback

"In our recent Ofsted report, September 2019, the lead inspector wrote 'Pupils value the opportunities they have beyond the core academic curriculum. All pupils in Years 1 to 6 are members of the Scout Association and take part in the meetings every Friday afternoon. The pupils are clear about how they develop skills in being independent, challenging themselves and being active. The activities also support their understanding of British values and the world around them.'
